SOUTH BRONX UNITE presents

THROWBACK – STORIES

NO PHOTOGRAPH EVER SPRUNG FROM THE ETHER. It came into existence at a specific location and moment in time in a fraction of a second. And that image has a unique story to tell as a silent visual sentinel that gives voice to a broader narrative.

This showcase, however, has a special multimedia gift: I’ve selected a few images from the exhibition to share their origin stories and illustrate how each is as distinct as a snowflake, with its own unique idiosyncrasies and worth within the larger historical record of the South Bronx and its people. I hope these short behind-the-scenes audible tableaux—taken from my notes and memories—help illuminate their context in both time and place, as well as my own as a collector of moments. — Edwin Pagán
